Agent Biography

Dudley Clark is a well-traveled individual. An east coast native, Dudley grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. Though he had never been west of the Mississippi, he headed out west to the University of Denver. Upon graduating, Dudley served in the National Guard for 6years, gaining experience in military policy. Post college life also meant more spur-of-the-moment moves for Dudley. A career in retailing brought him from Denver to Pittsburgh, Chicago, Sacramento, Richmond, and finally landed him here on the Seacoast in 1996, working for a national chain of outlet mall leather goods stores.

Dudley’s career in retail afforded him the opportunity to travel through Europe and East Asia. Dudley has taken advantage of life on the seacoast to further develop his interests in gardening, skiing and golf. Through his numerous life experiences and extensive travels, Dudley brings a seasoned perspective on the real estate business. Dudley’s real estate career has included sales and leasing of commercial real estate and small business.

Real Estate Tip

Dudley cautions against the common inability to differentiate between value and price when purchasing property. The assistance of a real estate agent is essential in overcoming this difficulty. He explains that the concept of value is a ratio between the amount paid for a property and what was actually received. In order to help a client determine value, an agent provides intimate knowledge of an area while showing as many similar properties as possible while talking them through what they saw. This process allows clients to determine the characteristics that are valuable to them. Dudley advises that a client needs this point of reference in order to make an educated decision.

Relocation Tip

Once a newcomer to Portsmouth himself, Dudley Clark admits that from a social standpoint, relocating to Portsmouth can initially seem challenging. On the surface, penetrating social groups appears difficult. Stereotypically, New Englanders tend to be reserved and may not make a conscious effort to meet newcomers. Furthermore, older towns like Portsmouth are rarely subdivided into specific neighborhoods, resulting in a lack of immediate connection with people of the same subdivision. Once you’re here, however, you will find the people of Portsmouth friendly and welcoming. Connecting with your neighbors requires a little effort. Dudley advises that the best way to meet people is to volunteer or join a local organization. "This is not only a great way to give back to the community, but also a fantastic way to meet your neighbors and people with common interests." For a list of local organizations, click here.

Favorite Portsmouth Spot

Behold Portsmouth in all its splendor – Surrounded by water and 3 bridges, there are many directions from which to view the city. To Dudley, the most picturesque image of Portsmouth comes from the Piscataqua River. The city’s true essence comes alive when observed from a riverboat, and the result is breathtaking. Fortunately, for those without their own personal boat, Portsmouth Harbor Cruises and Isles of Shoals Steamship Co. offer boat tours daily throughout the summer. Use this opportunity to witness the beauty that is Portsmouth and its harbor.
